Deborah Lippmann released a limited edition polish duo for Barney's New York in the Lady Gaga Workshop for $45. I couldn't help myself and I had to buy it! With no swatches out in the blog world at the time I purchased this, I wasn't sure if this was an actual holographic polish OR a flakie polish. Online, at least to me, it looked like a flakie polish. It showed up this afternoon via FedEx and I couldn't wait to rip open the box, take pics and share with you this gorgeous...flakie!!! Yup! It's a beautiful flakie polish! The other polish is just a black creme. Enough talk... just look at this beauty of a duo....
Shown on my nails:
- 1 coat of Sally Hansen Hard As Nails, Hard As Wraps Powerful Acrylic Gel (as my base coat)
- 1 coat of Deborah Lippmann polish in Edge of Glory
- 1 coat of Deborah Lippmann polish in Holographic Edge of Glory
- 1 coat of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
Here are some other base color choices...

Now let me know what you think...
What do you think of this beautiful duo? Did you pick up a set, or will you now? Discuss in the comments below.
Love this polish duo! The flakie polish looks very pretty over the black base, but probably I won´t be buying it, because it is quite expensive.
ReplyDelete@ Miss L: I agree; it is expensive, but I justify it by the fact it's limited edition, a flakie, and 25% of the sales go to the Born This Way Foundation.
ReplyDeleteThank you, now I am dying cause of you that is way too expensive for my budget!! That blue shines so bright!! More than Golden Rose Flakies!!! Very Gorgeous!!
ReplyDelete@ Jossie: You may die a little more when you hear this... in person that blue is like an electric blue/purple that really stands out beautifully on the nail. The orange/yellow looks like fire flakes and it's just so beautiful in person! I can't wait to layer this over white to see what the results will look like!
ReplyDeleteso nice colours :) I am in love.
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you, are you intrested in i-swap? (I like to changing esepcially with nail polishes) if you are - pls write on my mail - julia.r.wasielewska@onet.pl
xoxo
@ Julia Natalia: I've actually been thinking of swapping, but right now I don't really know if I want to give up any polishes I already have, lol. Maybe after the holidays! I'll let you know! :)
ReplyDeleteI understand :). So I'll be waiting for a message.
ReplyDelete/Huges.
It is interesting that blue and orange flakes are mixed together
ReplyDeletei wonder what the top coat looks like compared to her recent release 'Stairway to Heaven'? i can't keep up!!
ReplyDelete@ LissaSioux: Stairway To Heaven is more of a small hex & square iridescent glitter... which is pretty, but the Holographic Edge of Glory is a beautiful assortment of flakies!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThe effect is gorgeous!
ReplyDeletewow, so awesome!
ReplyDeletethis is so cool!
ReplyDeletedo you think the Edge of Glory topcoat would have a similar effect over a bare nail as Stairway? (like how doe the colors pull on their own without the black). I'm planning on using either over Chanel's Pearl Drop or over a grey, etc. what do you see when the two are next to each other? thanks!
ReplyDeleteNice, I guess, but I'm not a Lippmann fan. Don't like the brush handle, don't like most of the shades, and they're absurrrrdly overpriced. I'd much rather buy Ludurana or NfuOh flakies, honestly. Amazing pics as always, though!
ReplyDelete@ LissaSioux: Hmm, I'm not really sure. I would think that Stairway To Heaven would show up better on a bare nail, since flakies really don't come to life until they are over top a color... but I'll have to test it on bare nails! What I'll do is take off all my nail polish and re-do my nails... show Holographic Edge Of Glory over black, over white, over bare nails and other another color. I'll also put it on my clear sheets and layer it over other colors and post my results in this post. Check back in a few hours for those pics!
ReplyDelete@ collier: I agree with you on the price of Deborah Lippmann polishes. They are way out of my price range. The only one I ever paid full price for was the original Happy Birthday. All other Deborah Lippmann polishes I got in HSN value sets or with groupons to various places that basically gave me the polish for little money to free. This set, however, was just too hard for me to pass up. Her other limited edition sets out right now I can pass up though.
I don't have any Ludurana polishes, but I wish I did! And I don't own any Nfu Oh flakies. Luckily, this Deborah Lippmann flakie polish is unlike any other flakies I own. I would have been mad if it were too close a match to any that I already own, but since it's unique in its own way I can tell myself my purchase was worth it, lol.
@ LissaSioux: I just added the photos of Holographic Edge Of Glory layered over various colors, including naked nails. I hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteOkay!I like the looks of it. Does anyone think it looks a bit like Cult Nails Clairvoyant aka Unikorn Puke? I don't own Clairvoyant, but from the swatches I've seen Edge of Glory does look alot like UP.IMHO.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for these awesome swatches!
ReplyDeleteA very sweet friend got this set for me at Barneys and I didn't think it was possible but now I'm even more excited to wear this! Love!
thanks SO much! seriously, you went all out. it DOES help. i can see the appeal of this over Stairway because with Stairway you have all that glitter and the placement might be chunky and rough. This really does pull the best on the black. (and the red is gorgeous too) i think they're different enough to warrant both :)
ReplyDelete@ thalie @ Glazed Talons: I own Clairvoyant and can say that they are not alike, other than that they are a flakie. Clairvoyant is an a blue/purple jelly base and flashes multiple colors at the same time. Where as Holographic Edge Of Glory is in a clear base and flashes different colors. I just actually watched Clairvoyant, here is that link: http://xoxovalentinekissesxoxo.blogspot.com/2011/11/notd-cult-nails-clairvoyant.html
ReplyDelete@ Pammy: Aw, you have great friends!! :)
@ LissaSioux: You're very welcome! :) I agree, it looks best over black. I do like it over red, I also like it over the lilac purple. But it was disappointing over some shades, like white, the minty aqua, and both shimmers.
Wow, thanks for such a detailed and helpful post! It's sooooo good to see the flakie layered over other colours. You rock! :D
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are great pictures! Love the colors!

Golden Rose Scale Effects 02 is a perfect and very cheap dupe
ReplyDeleteObviously one of my favorite polishes
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing your swatches (and so far, you've been the only one--congrats and thanks!) I had to go buy the set, as well as Money Now. I really had to think since I have Stairway to Heaven but it is different enough.
ReplyDeleteIt is similar to Cult Nails Unicorn Puke (aka Clairvoyant). But it IS a DL. AND I'm a DL addict AND a Gaga fan AND part goes to charity.
So yeah I bought it ;) Thanks!
very unique!
ReplyDelete@ Miranda: They don't make them anymore; at least not available on the Golden Rose website. I've seen them though, and they are very pretty!
ReplyDelete@ Manicured Headache Slayer: Welcome to my blog! :) I'm glad you were able to get your hands on this set because it is really pretty and will be a collectible item in the future. And like you said... part goes to charity so that makes it okay :)
ReplyDeletethanks for posting, i've been looking everywhere for swatches! so is the base just opaque black shine?
ReplyDelete@ Lauren: You're welcome :) And yes, the base color is just a simple black creme. I really wish they would sell the flakie polish by itself to save money, but I understand that it's best paired with black so it was the smart thing to do (I guess, lol).
ReplyDeleteI tried a dupe using Opi Black Onyx and Sally Hansen's Disco Ball, but the glitter in Disco Ball doesn't look like your swatches. How are the flakies shaped? DB is holographic glitter suspended in clear. I'd love to get this polish, but we'll see if the fiance' actually buys it for me for Christmas before it sells out! Again, thanks for the review. I looked through the entire WWW. also, i linked my gaga friends to this page, hope that's ok.
ReplyDeletewww.saucestudiosonline.com
@ lauren: Deborah Lippmann's Holographic Edge Of Glory polish has flakies in it, so without using a flakie polish you won't get a dupe for it. Enamel Girl made a great, almost identical franken. Here's a link to that blog post on her blog: http://enamelgirl.blogspot.com/2011/11/deborah-lippman-lady-gaga-edge-of-glory.html
ReplyDeleteI hope your fiance will buy it for you for Christmas or that you're able to franken one yourself! Thanks for linking my page to your gaga friends :)
thanks for the info! my dupe's here: http://www.saucestudiosonline.com/2011/11/edge-of-glory-nail-lacquer-dupe-for.html and i used your pics as swatches but i linked back!!!
ReplyDeleteHi ! Love your blog !! Thank you for the swatches =D They are AWESOME !! I want to buy this but is it worth 45$ ?? Don't know yet...
ReplyDeleteI have never used the Sally Hansen base coat. Which remover do you use afterwards ?
Thank you !
C.
@ caro_18: It's hard to say if it's worth it because if you love Deborah Lippmann, Lady Gaga, and collecting limited edition polishes, then YES it's worth it! Plus, 25% of the purchase goes to charity. To me, it was worth it. However, when you look at what you're actually getting... eh, some would say NO WAY! I mean, you're getting two Deborah Lippmann polishes, which based on her normal pricing would be $16 for the black shade and likely $20 for the flakie -- that right there is $36. So you pay $9 extra bucks for a limited edition duo, and $11.25 is going to charity.
ReplyDeleteI will say that the flakie color combo is rather unique in the way it flashes blue/purple and orange. You can dupe it but you'd have to have the right flakies at home to do it -- and one is extremely difficult to find (Sinful Colors Green Ocean). So really, yes, to me it's worth it :)
As for the Sally Hansen base coat... I've only just begun using it here and there. I really don't think it makes my nails any stronger, which is sad to say. My nails felt stronger using the Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat but I'll have to do some more test runs.
I use 100% pure acetone nail polish remover, but I do mix in glycerin and that helps keep my nails hydrated and not go brittle or dry after using acetone. Acetone is quicker, so that's what I prefer. I do have other polish removers and they're okay but for quick and easy removal (especially for all the glitter polishes I wear), 100% pure acetone is the way to go!
Hey Crystal !
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for all of your tips and suggestions !! I really appreciate it !
I was asking for the removal because I have had a gel manicure done before. The result was amazing but when the manicurist had to take it off, I had to soak my nails in some stuff and then she had be buff the excess nail polish with an electric buffer or something !! I really hated that experience and it made my nails very weak ! That's why I want some advice on removal and good base coats !
Thanks again =D
@ caro_18: You're welcome! It sounds like the gel removal was painful; an electric buffer at those salons... well it makes my nails hurt just thinking about it! Pure acetone can make your nails weak too; so please do add glycerin to it which will solve that problem -- although if you add too much glycerin you'll have to wash your hands right after removing polish or they'll feel a bit greasy. But I'd rather have my hands/nails feel greasy than dry! There are several "recipes" out there for acetone & glycerin mix. I forget where I found mine or I would link to it. But basically you only need to add a little glycerin to an entire bottle of remover. You can buy pure acetone and glycerin at Wal-Mart.
ReplyDeleteAnother good polish remover is the Sephora by OPI remover (in the purple bottle). I like it because it's gentle, smells good, and takes polish off quickly... but no so much glitters.
If you ever have any other questions don't hesitate to leave a comment or send an email :)
Thank you so much !! Right now, I am using "The Stripper" by Lippmann ! It is quite expensive but it smells nice and it's a pump bottle which is very convenient ! Did you ever try it ?
ReplyDeleteMaybe I will try to get my hands on the Sephora one and compare :)
@ caro_18: You're using one of the better polish removers out there! I haven't used the actual liquid version, but I do have The Stripper To Go pads (got them in a Birchbox awhile back). The formula removes really nicely; similar to the Sephora by OPI version. I've heard the Zoya remover is good too, but haven't tried it. I think that's when a lot of people starting mixing acetone and glycerin to get a similar formula at a cheaper cost.
ReplyDeleteWell then ! I guess I have the gold !! I just started doing manis for myself and told myself that I would try out "The Stripper" ! Everyone was talking about it so I said : "Why not !" LOL! Maybe I don't need to look further but if ever you can compare, please let me know =D
ReplyDeleteI am still debating on the Lippmann polishes... I am in Canada and want someone to do a CP for me. You see ? So I don't want to spend all of that money and then say that I should have saved it for something else...
Anyways, nice chatting with you. This is my first blog experience and I have to say that it is fun to communicate about girly stuff LOL !!
@ caro_18: I buy most of my Deborah Lippmann polishes through HSN when they put together value sets, or when I have a groupon to a store that sells Deborah Lippmann polishes. I just think they are too expensive normally. Yes, they are great formulas but so are OPI's and China Glaze polishes, which are more than half the price.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your first blog experience was fun :) I love chit chatting about makeup. That's the one thing I could talk about all day and never get bored!
I know what you mean ! I am currently OBSESSED with MUA right now !! Do you know Makeupalley ? It is wonderful and saves people alot of money =D Plus, you get to meet people from all over the world and try new things ! Anyways, if you don't already know about it, check it out : http://www.makeupalley.com/
ReplyDelete@ caro_18: Yes, I'm on MUA. I don't get on there often, especially lately, but I do try to contribute there and join in the chats from time to time. My MUA name is valentinekisses
ReplyDeleteCool ! Fun to meet a member of the MUA family ! Did you ever swap before ? It is quite fun !! Maybe we can swap sometime :)
ReplyDeleteI just sent you a message through MUA :P
ReplyDelete@ caro_18: I'll have to check out the message when I get a chance, thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't done a swap yet, mostly because I'm too much of a makeup and nail polish hoarder, lol, but I'm thinking maybe after the holidays I'll start finding some items to swap... maybe... lol.
I was wondering why the step 2 is called "holographic". That's a flaked nail lacquer, not a holographic nail lacquer.
ReplyDeletelol
