Butter London Wink Cream Eye Shadow in Treacle - pics, swatches, review!

Hello, Beautiful!

This was my first time trying a cream shadow from Butter London, and I'm impressed. I got to try one of the new spring shades: Treacle. Let me just tell you, this shade is so glowy and pretty on the eyelids... I think I may be in love with it! It's a bit sheer at first, but easily buildable. One it dries down, it doesn't budge! Could easily wear on its own or even as a shadow base (but it's so pretty on its own). Check out all the product info, along with my full review, after the pics!

Butter London WINK Cream Eye Shadow
Shade: Treacle

Butter London WINK Cream Eye Shadow Info & Review:
Cost/Availability: $18.00 (0.27 oz full size). Available on the Butter London website, at Ulta, at Dermstore, and everywhere else Butter London is sold.
My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Kisses

Product Info...

With a lightweight formula, these vibrant cream shadows are easily applied and incredibly blendable. These washes of color dry into a velvety shimmer finish. The sheer formula goes on smoothly and is easily layered for deeper intensity. Does not crease. Comes in a tube with a doe-foot applicator.

Now available in a total of ten shades with the new addition of the four spring shades from their Boho Rock collection. Below are all ten shades, starting with the new ones, and their shade descriptions.
  • Treacle: a light beige shimmer
  • Earl Grey: steel grey shimmer
  • Twigged: a taupe shimmer
  • English Rose: a rosy pink shimmer
  • Indigo Punk: lavender shimmer
  • Inky Six: baby blue shimmer
  • Jaded Jack: grass green shimmer
  • Pistol Pink: rose-pink shimmer
  • Sun Kiss: muted gold shimmer
  • Alabaster Gaze: silver shimmer

My Review...

I don't know if I would call these cream shadows so much, as they're more of a liquid shadow. They go on very thin and weighless. Smooth and easy to apply, and incredibly easy to blend out while they are still wet. But once they do set, they're not budging, so I'd suggest working one eye at a time when using these if you want to blend them out at all.

They have a doe-foot applicator, and just based on personal preference, I don't really like doe-foot applicators for cream/liquid shadow application - even though it does make them very easy to apply. I prefer a squeeze tube, since I'm going to use my fingers (or brush) to blend it out anyway. However, seeing as how much I love the formula and shade (which if you keep reading, you'll see why), I can easily overlook the packaging/doe foot applicator.

On the first layer, they are a bit sheer and light in coverage - but still can be very pretty depending on the shade you choose. I'd imaging a darker or brighter shade would still show up great on the first layer. The shade I have, Treacle, is a light shade and even with one layer makes the lids glowly and pretty. However, I prefer to layer this two or three times, depending on the look I'm going for.

The shade I have, Treacle, can be used in one layer as an inner corner highlight too. You can use it all over the lid on its own, as a shadow base, or with other shadows.

I will say the shade Treacle does kind of remind me of the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded in how it's glowly and a great neutral champagne color, but this formula of the Butter London one is much thinner and lightweight, also I find they are much easier to blend out (not that Maybelline Color Tattoo's are hard to use). It's also not an exact dupe of Barely Branded, but just to compare it to something - that's what first popped into my head. I really want to get the shade Twiggy too, which seems like an amazing taupe!

I was really impressed with how these do NOT budge once they set. I rubbed and rubbed the swatch on my hand... even over three layers... and it wouldn't move. No creasing either!

Final Thoughts...

This was my first time trying a Butter London cream shadow and I was impressed! I think their new spring line of shades is much prettier then their core line - which don't really seem like shades I would typically pick up, especially at $18 a piece. But because I loved the shade Treacle so much, I'm definitely going to pick up Twiggy! They are both neutral shades that will get a lot of use and the formula is great. Yes, I'd recommend!

Butter London Lippy Tinted Balm in Teddy Boy - pics, swatches, review!

Hello, Beautiful!

I'm not the biggest fan of Butter London makeup - I love their polishes, but some of their makeup has been hit or miss with me. However, one product that I really do enjoy is their LIPPY Tinted Balms! I've already reviewed one, in the shade Axis Kiss - which is a great everyday shade. I have another gorgeous shade, which is new to their line, called Teddy Boy. This is another great everyday shade; not as bright as Axis Kiss, but still equally as everyday. Check out all the product info, along with my full review, after the pics!

Butter London LIPPY Tinted Balm
Shade: Teddy Boy

Butter London LIPPY Tinted Balm Info & Review:
Cost/Availability: $20.00 (0.14 oz full size). Available on the Butter London website, at Ulta, at Dermstore (they didn't have the new collection on their website at the time I wrote this post), and everywhere else Butter London is sold.
My Rating: 4 out of 5 Kisses

Product Info...

LIPPY Tinted Balm has the moisture of a lip balm, with the finish and color of a lipstick. Hydrating formula rich in avocado, mango see, cocoa and shea butter, with a cream texture. Highly wearable sheer shades with a formula that glides on with ease. Buildable color.

The collection of LIPPY Tinted Balms now includes a total of nine shades, with their addition of their three new spring shades: Teddy Boy, Nutter, and Mush. Below are all shades and their shade descriptions, starting with the new Spring 2014 shades.
  • Teddy Boy: medium coverage rosy creme
  • Nutter: a medium coverage beige creme
  • Mush: a medium coverage coral creme
  • Axis Kiss: medium coverage punchy pink creme
  • Abbey Rose: medium coverage rose creme
  • Apricot Sunray: medium coverage coral creme
  • Black Cherry: medium coverage wine creme
  • Strawberry Field: medium coverage red creme
  • Toasted Marshmallow: medium coverage nude creme

My Review...

Teddy Boy is described as a medium coverage rosy creme, which has an almost exact description as Abbey Rose. Without owning Abbey Rose, it looks as though it may be deeper in tone than Teddy Boy - but again, just based on looks from their website. To me, Teddy Boy is a rosey brown "your lips but better shade". It's certainly not brown, but it pulls a bit more neutral in tone, if that makes any sense. Sticking with the same shade description, the new shade Mush has the same shade description as Apricot Sunray. And again, without owning either (just by looking on the website), the new shade Mush seems a bit softer in tone than Apricot Sunray.

And of course, as with all Butter London names, they always include a description of what the shade name means. The description of Teddy Boy is: British subculture typified by young men wearing dandy-inspired styles from the Edwardian period.

As far as formula goes, I like these. It's one of the better cosmetic items from Butter London. They go on my lips really nicely. Even though they look like a lipstick, they go on feeling like a lip balm - yet you still get color like a lipstick. They're not opaque by any means, but they aren't sheer either. It's not the most hydrating formula I've ever tried in my life, but it still feels very comfortable on my lips and didn't dry them out.

The price point is still on target with most of the Butter London cosmetics. They are $20 each, which may seem a bit steep but if it's an everyday wearable shade that you'll get your money's worth, then it's totally worth it in my opinion. Do I wish they were a bit cheaper - sure! I think they should be around the $15 mark but again, I've gotten great use out of the shade Axis Kiss and I know I'll get great use of this new shade, Teddy boy. So for me, it makes it okay to spend $20 when I'm actually using it. I can't tell you how many $5 lip balms and/or glosses/lipsticks that I've bought and worn once or twice. You add that up and it's more than the cost of one that I actually use.

Final Thoughts...

This is one of my favorite makeup products from Butter London and would actually be the product I'd recommend you start with from their lip line if you didn't try anything yet. If you like a balmy feel to your lip products then you'll love these, especially if you want some color too.

Butter London LIPPY Tinted Balm in Axis Kiss - pics, swatches, review

Hello, Beautiful!

I love when I find "purse perfect" lip products; you know - products that are the perfect color to go with just about anything, are easy to apply without a mirror, and do something good/pretty to your lips. The Butter London LIPPY Tinted Balm in the shade Axis Kiss is another purse perfect lip product for me. The shade is so pretty and this feels comfortable on the lips. Read my full review below, including all the product info, after the pics!

Butter London LIPPY Tinted Balm
Shade: Axis Kiss

Butter London LIPPY Tinted Balm Info & Review:
Cost/Availability: $20.00 (0.14 oz full size). Available on the Butter London website, at Ulta, at Dermstore, at Macys, and everywhere else Butter London is sold.
My Rating: 4 out of 5 Kisses

LIPPY Tinted Balm has the moisture of a lip balm and the finish & color of a lipstick. Six subtle shades highlight the glow of every skin tone, and are the ultimate beauty secret for the woman-on-the-go.

Hydrating formula rich in avocado, mango see, cocoa and shea butter with a creamy texture. Highly wearable sheer shades with a formula that glides on with ease. Buildable color.

Currently available in six shades; below are the shade names and their color descriptions:
  • Axis Kiss - Medium coverage punchy pink creme. A little smooch of rock n' roll.
  • Abbey Rose - Medium coverage rose creme. A nod to the birthplace of many rock n' roll classics.
  • Apricot Sunray - Medium coverage coral creme. Command the room in this fruity hue.
  • Black Cherry - Medium coverage wine creme. Add a little edge to innocence.
  • Strawberry Field - Medium coverage red creme. Livin' is easy with a red pout.
  • Toasted Marshmallow - Medium coverage nude creme. Around the bonfire with a rockin' 4-piece band.

I have the shade Axis Kiss, which is a great purse shade - as I mentioned and explained at the top of this blog post. It's such a flattering pink for my skintone and I think a lot of people could wear it. It gives you a touch of pink that isn't so bright that it's too much but isn't so sheer that you don't feel like you added any color - it's that perfect sheer to medium color payoff of a beautiful pink shade.

I think in the future I'd be interested in trying Abbey Rose, Apricot Sunray and Toasted Marshmallow, but for now I'm loving the shade Axis Kiss!

This went on my lips really nicely - feels like more of a lip balm rather than a lipstick - yet you get great color payoff. I don't think it's the most hydrating formula out there, but it certainly isn't drying. It comes with the typical $20 Butter London cosmetics price tag - which seems to be how much the majority of their cosmetics (non-polish) cost.

I think the shade is a home run - and based on that alone I would definitely recommend this. It has a nice formula too - but I know the $20 price tag can be a turn off to some. However, when I find a great purse shade of any lip product I don't care about the price tag - I care about the color and the performance. Let me know your thoughts!
