QVC Discovery Kit -- only $19 but worth $136.89!!

Hello, Beautiful!

QVC has come out with a few (I believe) Discovery Kits in the past, but none of them really caught my attention until the most recent, which was only $19 and sold out in a matter of minutes (at least during the presentation I watched). For just $19 with free shipping you get 6 items, all being deluxe sample sizes except two are full size (even though the It Cosmetics Brow Power looks mini size, it's really a full size if you compare the ounces to the full sized version). Check out everything in this QVC Discovery Kit, along with my mini reviews, after the pics!

Believe it or not, this kit -- which I paid just $19 for -- is worth $136.89!

QVC Discovery Kit

  • Vita Liberata Tan Mousse in Medium (0.84 fl oz sample size) and a mini mitt
  • It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil (0.0056 oz sample size)
  • Mally Beauty High Shine Liquid Lipstick - you either got the shade Baby or Starburst (0.12 oz full size)

My Review...

First, let's just talk a second about the insane value that was this QVC Discovery Kit! I know I mentioned this several times in this post already, but I paid ONLY $19 for this kit and it has a value of $136.89!!! This has got to be one of the best, if not the best, value sample beauty packs (or whatever you want to call it) that I've ever received.

Let's start with the Mally High Shine Liquid Lipstick... I received the shade Starburst, but you could have gotten one of two shades - either Starburst or Baby (and I believe it may be called Mally's Baby, to be technical). I already own both those shades, but if you don't already then this kit alone is worth it just for that one item - which retails for $20 on its own! Plus, I love the shade Starburst and I love her High Shine Liquid Lipstick. I could have been a makeup hoarder and kept this myself, especially since it is full size, but I ended up giving it away to a friend who I know will put it to very good use.

The It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil is something I already own two of, and actually maybe three of. I don't reach for it often because I like the finer tip that that Anastasia Brow Wiz offers, but it is a good brow pencil. I thought this was a mini size, just by looks, even though Lisa during the presentation on QVC said it was full size. I just thought she messed up, but it is in fact a full size if you compare the ounces of product to the full size version. That alone is a $24 value - again, worth the entire price of this kit if you just want the brow pencil.

The Philosophy Miracle Worker Miraculous Anti-Aging Moisturizer is a great sample size - you get an entire ounce! That's worth $30 right there! I used to use this moisturizer religiously way back in the day when my son was just an infant (and even before then), but as a beauty blogger I try many products and just never got back to it. I'm happy to have a new jar of it and absolutely will be using this moisturizer!

I'm really excited to try the Perricone MD Neuropeptide Facial Cream. I hear so much about it on QVC, but the full size comes at a luxury price tag of $240! This sample jar, while it may look small at just 0.5 oz, is actually worth $48! You better believe I'm going to use this jar until there isn't a drop left!

The Vita Liberata Tan Mousse in Medium is something I may or may not actually get around to trying. I had gotten a Vita Liberata Tan Lotion in my March Ipsy bag and still haven't gotten around to trying it (and it's June). I like self tanners, but I've been hooked on Tarte's!

The final item in this QVC Discovery Kit is the WEN Cucumber Aloe Cleansing Conditioner. It's a 2 oz packet - which is great for travel or even for trial. You can buy 8 of these same size packets for $33 on the QVC website. It's definitely just a single use if you're someone like me with long hair, but if you have short hair you may get 2 uses out of it. I used to be big into using WEN but just didn't have time for that, as it's just unrealistic in my everyday life -- only because when I use WEN, I like to really use it properly and let it sit in my hair for about 20 minutes, and that's after taking a full minute to rinse my hair before using it, then taking another 2 or 3 minutes massaging it in really good and combing it through, plus the time it takes to rinse it out. Let's just say for me, WEN is a 30 minute process. It certainly doesn't have to be -- you could do a quick version and get it done in about 5 to 10 minutes -- but I wasn't going to spend all that money on WEN and not do it right. For what WEN I have left in bottles, and now in this packet, I will use it maybe once a week when I have the time. I really do like WEN though; it gives me shiny, bouncy, soft hair and I can go at least 3 days without needing to wash my hair and at least 2 days, maybe 3 days, without using any dry shampoo!

Final Thoughts...

I wish I would have bought 5 of these kits. Not just to hoard up products for myself because of the amazing value, but to give them to friends. This kit was an insane value and I hope QVC continues to come out with great Discovery Kits like this in the future. I'll be sure to buy them (at least 2 for now on), whenever I see them online or on-air. I'd recommend!

It Cosmetics Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush - pics, review

Hello, Beautiful!

I love It Cosmetics makeup brushes; they're soft, but dense enough to actually use and they apply your makeup beautifully. They're also all cruelty-free, which I know is really important to a lot of you. In this post I'll talk about their Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush. This duo-ended brush has a larger side for applying your foundation and a smaller side for applying your concealer. It's, of course, that great It Cosmetics quality with that epic softness and fullness. Check out my full review and all the info below after the pics!

It Cosmetics
Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush

It Cosmetics Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush Info & Review:
Cost/Availability: $48.00. Available on the It Cosmetics website, at QVC (sold in a brush kit - which is the best value), at Beauty.com, and everywhere else It Cosmetics are sold.
My Rating: 5 out of 5 Kisses!

The It Cosmetics Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush was designed with leading plastic surgeons to apply both foundation and concealer to a flawless, airbrushed finish!

The ultra-plush, ultra-luxe large end allows you to quickly apply your foundation to larger areas, while the micro-end allows for the most accurate precision in even the smallest spaces. This 100% cruelty-free high-quality brush is extremely soft and great for even the most sensitive skin.

I really love It Cosmetics brushes; they're soft but dense enough to actually use and apply your makeup beautifully. Every single It Cosmetics brush I've gotten has been a winner, and the Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush is yet again another winner!

Love this for exactly as it's intended: for foundation and for concealer. Applies it beautifully and feels great on the skin. They also clean really easily and go back to their original condition beautifully. One thing I never notice is shedding, which is great because some brushes can have that new-brush-shedding that happens and then some brushes even continue to shed. This brush, and all the It Cosmetics brushes I have, don't shed. They truly are great quality brushes that are a smart investment, as they will last you many, many years if not a lifetime.

The cost of this brush is steep at $48 but you have to consider the fact that it's not really just one brush - it's two brushes. You're getting a foundation brush and a concealer brush, all in one -- and you could even use this duo-ended brush for other products too - such as using the larger end for powders (think blushes, bronzer) and the smaller end for eyeshadows. You could save money by going through QVC and ordering the brush kit, which is just a dollar more than this cost of this one brush and you get three brushes (although two of the three brushes are duo-ended so really it's like you're getting 5 brushes).

Makeup brushes do come in a range of price points but we all know that sometimes what you pay for is what you get. My cheap e.l.f. studio brushes may be affordable, but they always break on me -- especially the studio powder brush, which is what I use to apply liquid foundations (it's basically a flat top kabuki). Sure, it's just $3 but I've had to replace so many. I'd say right now I have about 8 of them, and I've thrown out at least 3 - so that's about $33 on that one type of brush (although I did get some half off). Regardless, my point is replacing brushes adds up over time, when you could have just invested that money once and gotten yourself a brush that lasts you. Sort of like when you're looking for a partner... you may find mr. right now but who is mr. forever? You want a mr. forever brush, not a mr. right now brush that breaks, haha.

I really like the It Cosmetics makeup brushes and would definitely recommend them!

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer in Light & in Neutral Medium - before & after, pics, swatches, review

Hello, Beautiful!

One of my all time favorite concealers is the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer. It's so richly pigmented, creamy, and covers everything I need it to -- and did you know it's waterproof? I originally did a review back in March of 2011, but it wasn't a very great review and I felt it was time to do an updated post - over 2 years later - showing better swatches and better before & after pics. Check out my full review and all the info after the pics.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer
Shades: Light, Neutral Medium

Shade: Neutral Medium

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer Info & Review:
Cost/Availability: $24.00 (0.28 fl oz full size). Available on the It Cosmetics website, on QVC's website - also sold with a brush for just a few dollars more, on the Beauty.com website, and everywhere else It Cosmetics are sold.
My Rating: 5 out of 5 Kisses!

Working hand in hand with the leading plastic surgeons in Brazil, It Cosmetics formulated Bye Bye Under Eye, a full coverage, highly pigmented anti-aging concealer utilizing truly innovative technology and ingredients - giving women the powder to finally say "bye bye" to those stubborn under-eye issues!

Bye Bye Under Eye offers a waterproof, yet moisturizing formula that stays put no matter what. The truly innovative formula contains high concentrations of vitamins K, A, C, E and Hydrolyzed Collagen - clinically proven to reduce under eye puffiness and discoloration while strengthening the delicate skin of the under eye area.

Besides just being an amazing under eye concealer, you can also use it to conceal facial bruising, blemishes, hyper pigmentation, redness -- pretty much anything you want covered. You could even cover a tattoo (you'll just need to layer it)! You can even use it as an all-over foundation for serious coverage -- although if you have oily skin you'll need to set it really well for best results.

I love that you only need to use a very small amount to get the job done. It really is full coverage, and while it is a thicker liquid/cream concealer it doesn't feel heavy on the skin. It stays put, as it is waterproof, so this is a go-to in the hot summer months for me. Blends beautifully too!

Available in four shades: Light, Neutral Medium, Tan, and Deep. I have this in Light and in Neutral Medium. Light is just a little too light for me, but great for highlighting areas of my face and I can use it on my best friend, who is lighter than I am. Neutral Medium is a perfect shade for me, and what I've used in the past (the tube in this post is my 3rd one!). One summer I purchased it in Tan, and it worked okay for a week or two, but then was just a touch too dark. I do hope they expand their shade range just slightly, but for now I think they offer some great shade options.

One tube will last you forever... seriously; you don't need to use a lot and unless you're using this as an all-over foundation everyday, this tube will last you easily a year or longer. I still have a tube more than half full, and I went through one before - but I gave the rest of that one away to a friend (which is when I purchased the other tube) and now I have this one too.

This is a great concealer that I'd really recommend!

New Beauty Test Tube - QVC Limited Edition - Summer/Fall 2011

Hello, Beautiful!

I recently signed up for the New Beauty Test Tube, through New Beauty's website. You can click here to check out my blog post on that shipment and for more info on New Beauty's regular Test Tube. But then I saw New Beauty Test Tube on QVC and I changed my mind on which one I wanted to subscribe to. The QVC versions have a completely different set of products in them than the regular New Beauty Test Tube.

The QVC version is the same price, but shipping is slightly cheaper for me. QVC doesn't always keep the Test Tube up on their website, except when it's still for sale, but click here to view the most recent New Beauty Test Tube offered by QVC. The QVC limited edition New Beauty Test Tubes include products sold by QVC and generally are products I prefer. However, you don't get as high of value or as many items as a regular New Beauty Test Tube, and you don't get a $20 Spalook gift card (which isn't really a gift card at all, since you have to spend $100 to use it - really making it a 20% off coupon). I still think the QVC version is better because you get more full-sized products and more makeup items. The regular New Beauty Test Tube features products in their magazines, which are mostly skincare based (or so it seems).

Now I have to say that I had to ship my QVC Test Tube back and order and replacement. Why? Because my Test Tube was missing the Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15, which is one of my favorite products and one of the main reasons I wanted to order it. When I contacted QVC about the missing item they told me they can't send a replacement for just that one item, but they could offer me a $5 credit OR I could ship back the entire Test Tube for a replacement or full refund. Taking the $5 credit would not make any sense, since the lip balm has an almost $12 value. So I had to ship it back for a full refund and re-placed my order. I can finally post about it!

Check out my pics, swatches, review....

I received Grapefruit Vanilla in the first shipment, which does have a pleasant light scent, but I had wished to try Vanilla Coconut or Pure Vanilla. When I returned the first shipment and received the second replacement shipment, I was delighted to have received Coconut Vanilla! The five scents you could receive are Vanilla Lavender, Vanilla Passion Fruit, Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Grapefruit, and Vanilla Coconut.

  • My Thoughts: I already own this brown pencil and really liked it. In fact, I bought one for my grandmom too because I knew it would work for her really well. This is a nice brow pencil, but it's not my absolute favorite. I use it, but it's not the one I reach for day after day. I didn't swatch this product so I could leave it un-used if I want to gift, sell, or give it away.
  • Full Sized: 0.16 g @ $24
  • Size I Received: 0.16 g (this is a full sized product)
  • Value: $24.00

PHILOSOPHY Divine Fragrance Sample
  • Description: Complement your Divine Illumination color wardrobe with this vibrant, sophisticated fragrance. It reflects captivating radiance to inspire a feeling of wisdom and confidence, the shimmering citrus, beautiful floral notes are warm and welcoming. Divine is a fragrance for the woman who wants to feel divinely feminine and elegant, while embracing her sensual side.
  • My Thoughts: This is a bonus sample included in this shipment. I'm not a fragrance person, but I actually like this one. It's not too strong, but it is a stronger fragrance. you're supposed to only apply this on your pulse points and not spray it all over. Would I buy the full sized version? Eh, probably not because I don't buy perfumes. If I received another sample would I use it for a day or two, yes, absolutely.
