Make Up For Ever (MUFE) is one of my favorite brands of makeup and their Duo Mat Powder Foundation has been on my want list for a long time, yet for some reason I always passed it up. I like MUFE's Mat Velvet + Foundation, which is basically the liquid version of the Duo Mat Powder Foundation.

Basic stats for Make Up For Ever Duo Mat Powder Foundation:
Formula: pressed powder foundation

Wear: long-wearing
Shade Info: 11 shades available
Cost/Availability: $32 (0.35 oz full size). Available on Sephora's website and everywhere else Make Up For Ever products are sold.
Packaging: round compact; includes a mirror inside compact and a sponge applicator underneath the powder
My Rating: 5 out of 5 Kisses!
Formula:
This is a press powder foundation, which is oil-free and long lasting. It will give your skin a matte finish while evening out your skin tone and covering most flaws. Best for those with normal to combo skin types.
Coverage:
I'm calling this a medium to full coverage foundation, which is buildable from sheer to full depending on application method. This powder has a lot of power to it because it has the ability to cover a lot, while also having the ability to be a sheer skin finisher to set makeup. I was impressed with the coverage.
Wear:
This is a long-wear foundation and I've put it to the test. It stayed nearly perfect for over 7 hours. During those 7 hours I spend several of them volunteering at my son's school -- and for some reason the heat was on blast in there. I was starting to sweat without moving; it was that hot. Then I came home, relaxed for a half hour before my son came home from school, then from 3pm till 7pm I was outside decorating my house for Halloween. I came back in and my makeup was still good!
Shade Info:
Currently there are 11 shades available. The shade I chose is 203 - Light Beige. In MAC foundation I'm around an NC30/NC25 and shade 203 in the Duo Mat Powder Foundation works beautifully for me.
Cost/Availability:
$32 (0.35 oz full size). Available on Sephora's website and everywhere else Make Up For Ever products are sold -- such as Make Up For Ever stand-alone stores.
Packaging:
Black round compact with a mirror on the inside. An included sponge applicator is underneath the powder.
Make Up For Ever Duo Mat Powder Foundation Review:
I had this foundation on my wish list for a long time, and I wish I had gotten it long ago. I really love this foundation because it applies nicely, covers well, and wears wonderfully.
My search for the perfect pressed powder foundation is over! I had tried a few pressed powder foundations and didn't fully like them for one reason or another. For example, Illamsqua's Powder Foundation was great at first. It had wonderful coverage but I did have issues finding a good shade match (I have 2 of their Powder Foundations because of it). I would have really loved them if it wasn't for how they wore. It went away so quickly, and not in a pretty way. It just didn't hold up. In all fairness it was the spring and summer months, so maybe I will re-try them now that it's colder and my skin isn't as oily. Then there was Dior's Forever Powder Foundation (I don't remember the exact name and Sephora no longer carries it; they have a new version). It covered so beautifully, pretty flawless, however I had a hell of a time finding a good shade match - which is something I often fight with Dior's foundations. On top of that, the fragrance was so strong I couldn't stand it (I'm really sensitive to fragrances). I also tried some drugstore brand powder foundations I already had but hadn't tried - one from Maybelline and one from L'Oreal; both were not good for coverage or wear.
I really like to have a good powder foundation in my makeup wardrobe because they are a quick and easy option. If I need to get out the door I can pull that out, use the sponge applicator and get out the door fast. They're easy for touch-up's on the go too. I'm still a liquid foundation type of gal, but I needed a great pressed powder foundation and I've found it with Make Up For Ever's Duo Mat Powder Foundation.
I'm so happy I have the Make Up For Ever Duo Mat Powder Foundation! I just hope it continues to impress me the way it has so far. I highly recommend checking it out!

I ordered something similar but from a different brand and I'm still waiting and hoping that it will be good as yours (btw. I love when you put foundations over tatoo just to see how sheer/opaqe it is) ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the before/after pics! How did you apply this foundation?
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous: I applied this foundation for the before/after photo using the included sponge.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about purchasing this item, but not sure yet...but how is your skin type? Is it oily, combination or dry? I have really oily skin and I want to see if this holds up to it.
ReplyDeleteBut great review :)
@ Tina: I have oily acne prone skin (although right now it's combo, although still more oily than anything). The MUFE Mat Velvet is GREAT for oily skin types. Their liquid version is wonderful too for oily skin - both I have and both I'd recommend! The worse you could do is get it from Sephora, try it out and return/exchange it if it's not a match.
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I was planning on purchasing it on the sephora site since I have a $30 gift card. I tried it on before and I liked it, but I didn't get to see the oil control since I removed it after an hour or 2.
ReplyDeleteHow would this be on someone with dry patches?
ReplyDeleteHi!so i'm a 125 in mufe hd foundation maybe you know if shade 203 in duo mat would be right for me?because they don't have it where i live and i have to choose online!thank you in advance!
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous: I have the MUFE HD Foundation in 120, so 203 would likely work for you.
