Maybelline has a real winner with their new Color Tattoo 24HR Eyeshadow! These cream shadows stay put all day, and then some! The colors are GORGEOUS, they go on so easily and blend nicely. The pigmentation is outstanding. Overall, these are amazing and I plan to buy a few more shades, I actually already went back to Wal-Mart and purchased two more shades (Too Cool and Bad To The Bronze); I'll post swatches of those two shades in the future, along with a comparison of all 5 shades next to each other. For now though...

Basic stats for Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Eyeshadow:
PRO's: very nicely pigmented, affordable, sleek packaging, stays put

Basic stats for Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Eyeshadow:
Formula: cream
Coverage: great pigmentation
Wear: very long wearing
Shade Info: currently available in 10 shades
Cost/Availability: $5.75 to $8.00 depending where you shop (0.14 oz full size). Available at Target, Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreen's, etc. Basically anywhere Maybelline cosmetics are sold. I haven't seen these online for sale yet (at the time I wrote this article) but I'm sure they will show up soon.
Packaging: round jar; twist-off lid
My Rating: 5 out of 5 Kisses!
Formula:
These cream shadows are fabulous! They go on very smooth, richly pigmented, and even blend nicely. They're waterproof (at least when I tested them) and they stay put!
Coverage:
Very nice pigmentation; buildable if you choose.
Wear:
Very long wearing; these are called 24HR for a reason. Once I put them on they're staying put!
Shade Info:
Currently available in 10 shades. I have three shades but kind of want them all, even though I don't think I'll actually wear them all. Even the Tenacious Teal shade I have is one I would use as a liner color, or a base for darker shades to go on top. But these colors, the formula, and the price are so right that I want them all. In reality, I really only want to also purchase Painted Purple,Bad To The Bronze (bought this already), Bold Gold, and Too Cool (bought this already). What Maybelline is missing is a great shimmering champagne shade; hopefully they'll add more shades once they realize how great these are!
Cost/Availability:
$5.99 to $8.00 depending where you shop (0.14 oz full size). Available at Target, Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreen's, etc. Basically anywhere Maybelline cosmetics are sold. I haven't seen these online for sale yet (at the time I wrote this article) but I'm sure they will show up soon.
Packaging:
Rounded jar with twist-off lid. Very nice, sleek packaging. Easy to see the colors.
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Eyeshadow Review:
I am going crazy for these! At under $6 a pop (I shop at Wal-Mart and Target for best prices), this is an amazing deal. You get a lot of product in that jar. To compare, they are just as great as the Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams, which are $22 a pop (you get more product in the MUFE version, 0.21 oz compared to 0.14 oz in Maybelline's version).
There is a nice range of shades to choose from, but I do think Maybelline needs to add some shades. Specifically a shimmering champagne, a slightly shimmer midnight blue, and maybe a dusty gray/purple shimmer. I really hope they will continue to make these cream shadows in new shades!
I started by wearing Audacious Asphalt, which is beautiful on its own. I apply it a bit more sheer than how it's swatched in the photos and it's perfect. The Tenacious Teal hasn't been used yet, but I plan to use it as an eyeliner or a base to layer darker powder shadows over top. Then there is the shade Tough As Taupe, which I passed up three times before giving in and buying the last one. I'm really glad I did. It looks rather basic/boring in the jar, but swatched out so much better. It's more of a gray-brown taupe, which is more flattering on me. I'm really happy with all three shades.
Overall, YES, I highly, highly, highly recommend these!

Tenacious Teal looks great! Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this at my local Target store, yet. I tried MAC's Soft Ochre paint pot and it was too drying for my lids. I hope the Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows aren't drying and I hope they don't crease on me. Did you have to wear a primer such as Too Faced Shadow Insurance or Urban Decay primer to make them not crease?
ReplyDelete@ Joyce: I actually haven't tried MAC Paint Pots (shocking, I know, but I don't own much MAC), so I can't compare these to them. However, I can say that I use these without primer and have no issues with how they go on, no issues with creasing, and they're very long lasting. Everyone's eye lids are different though, so if you normally have issues with cream shadows creasing then I would for sure pair it with a primer just to be safe.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a taupe afficianado and I didn't think I'd like it, but Tough as Taupe is amazing! So opaque and smooth-looking! Wantttt
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to try some of these! I think I want the pomegranate shade because I think it will look great on green eyes. What type of brush works best to apply these with?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review!
@ Krissy: Because most of my brushes need to be cleaned right now, I've been using a brush I received in a Tarte kit sold on QVC. It's basically a flat shadow brush, like most cream brushes are designed. It was included in the kit to go along with the Tarte cream shadow. Here's a pic of it: http://www.valentinekisses.com/swatches/bybrand/tarte/Tarte_shadowbrush_2.jpg
ReplyDeleteI find it applies the Maybelline Color Tattoo shadows well, allowing me to apply and blend with the same brush. You could also use your finger. But really, a flat shadow brush works great for applying cream products.
much cheaper than the chanel eyeshadow pods i've been buying! is there much fallout?
ReplyDelete@ lauren: No fallout because they are a cream formula. The Chanel shadows you're talking about have more a texture closer to the new L'Oreal Infallible shadows (that weird hybrid between cream & powder, making them bouncy and soft, yet goes on smooth). The Maybelline Tattoo shadows are just cream so no fallout to worry about.
ReplyDeleteOmg, that teal!! ::drools:::
ReplyDeleteOh wow, those look super fun - thanks for swatching! I allllmost ordered one of the MUFE aqua creams in my recent sephora order...glad I waited! I'll definitely look for these during my next drugstore trip.
ReplyDeletethey look amazing! <3 I want some I seen them before anyone was doing videos or talking about them and thinking to myself.. should i buy these? haha I didn't I stopped myself! I shouldnt have because now I'm kicking myself! :-(
ReplyDeleteI picked up two last week they were so pretty in the bottle. Haven't busted them out yet glad to hear they are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for these to become available in Australia, I'm in love already :) xx
