Tarte EmphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse: swatches, before & after pic, review

Hello, Beautiful!

A few months ago I was on the search for a new brow product. I had been using Smashbox Brow Tech (the pressed powder version) for years, then tried their Brow Tech To-Go (which ran out super fast and was the reason I needed a new brow product). One of the products I decided to try was the Tarte EmphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Brow Mousse... and I love it!

My brows are thin and sparse. They're sparse due to stress and certain medications I've taken. I don't do my makeup without finishing my brows. My face doesn't feel complete without doing my brows. If I forget to do my brows I feel naked. There are even days where I stay at home and I won't wear any makeup except for my brows. If you couldn't tell already, I like to fill in my brows, haha! I mean, I would never put on one coat of polish and say "eh, it looks good enough" when I know a second coat would even things out and make it look even. That's what a good brow product can do. It can take years off your face and give you an instant face lift.

Tarte EmphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Brow Mousse
Shade: Medium Brown
Shade Description: A matte medium brown, great for most shades of brunette.

My Before & After pic using Tarte EmphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Brow Mousse in the shade Medium Brown:

Basic stats for Tarte's EmphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Brow Mousse:
Formula: called a mousse, but I would call this a cream
Coverage: buildable
Wear: long-wearing
Shade Range: 3 shades available
Container small round jar; twist off lid
Cost: $28 for 0.1 oz full size, which includes a double-ended brush, on QVC.com
Availability: currently only available on QVC.com
My Rating: 5 out of 5 Kisses!

Formula:
Tarte calls this a brow "mousse", but to me a mousse is more fluffy and frosting-like. This is more like a cream liner or gel liner consistency (identical to Smashbox Jet Set Liners). It's not soft but it's not rock hard. It's easy to get product out without picking up too much on your brush. Just be sure to put the lid back on tightly so it doesn't dry out.

Coverage:
The great thing about this brow product is you have control over how dark the color application goes on. Light strokes give you lighter color and harder strokes give you darker color. Layer it if you need to, but you shouldn't. You just want something to fill in the background, which will look natural... you don't want a Sharpie-marker look! Keep in mind the before & after photo above is shown at close-up and it still doesn't look that noticeable. From normal distance my brows look really natural!

Wear:
This is a waterproof product, which means it's going to last you a long time. It also has Amazonian clay in it, so it will help to absorb oil keeping your brows in place all day. This product lasts even through long, hot, sweaty days at the amusement park... I do get some fading, but nothing dramatic. On normal days my brows don't budge at all.

Shade Range:
Available in three shades on QVC's website. Taupe: for blonde, gray and red hair. Medium Brown: for brunettes (some red heads may be able to wear this shade). Rich Brown: for the deepest brown hair to black hair.

Container:
Comes in a small round jar/pot with a twist-off lid. Be sure to close it tightly so your brow mousse doesn't dry out!

Cost & Availability:
Currently this product is exclusive to QVC through February 29, 2012. You can purchase this with a double-ended brush for $28 plus shipping & handling on QVC's website. You currently cannot buy this without the brush, but I'm assuming once it launches in all retail outlets the cost of this product will be less... probably around the $18 to $22 price range without the brush. The brush that comes with this product is really terrible. I'm sorry Tarte, I love your products and I love this brow product especially, but the brush fell apart before I even had a chance to use it. That seems to be the main complaint of everyone who purchased this. If the brush was better quality I would have no complaints about the extra cost for the included brush. I just hope I don't run out before it becomes available for solo purchase because I don't want to get that same brush again!

Review:Currently this is the only brow product I use on a daily basis. Every now and then I'll use a different product because I feel bad for the products I don't use, but I always come back to this! It works. Plain and simple!

I would highly recommend this to anyone who is currently unsatisfied with their current brow product or anyone who is on the search for a brow product. The price is steep, but well worth it. This little jar will last you a very long time! I've had mine for about 4 or 5 months now and as you can see in the pics above I've barely made a dent in the jar!

Let me know what you think! Do you own this or one of the other shades? Do you have any questions about this product? Leave me a comment or send me an email!

  3. @ Anonymous: I haven't slept in this product, so I can't really say for certain if it would stay put till the morning. I would say yes, if you applied it before bed and if you don't roll on your face while you sleep. I've slept in many brow products before and they usually last till morning, although some may come off depending on what my face did to my pillow while I slept, lol.
