e.l.f. Cosmetics Beauty School Shadow Palette Volume 1 - swatches, pics, review

Hello, Beautiful!

I recently picked up this e.l.f. Cosmetics Beauty School Shadow Palette Volume 1, which I found at Big Lots for $3 or $4. I haven't used it a whole lot, but there are some really great basic shades included in this palette and the pigmentation is decent.

Check out my pics, swatches, and review...

e.l.f. Cosmetics Beauty School Shadow Palette Volume 1

Now let's see the shadows in more detail...

Basic stats for e.l.f. Cosmetics Beauty School Shadow Palette Volume 1:
Formula: pressed powder eyeshadows
Coverage: buildable
Wear: average
Shades Available: 32-shades per palette; two Beauty School Shadow palettes available
Container: A rectangular palette with partial window on front, mirror on inside top of lid, shadows on the other, includes a mini applicator
Cost/Availability: $5.00 for the palette. Available on the e.l.f. Cosmetics website.
My Rating: 4 out of 5 Kisses

Formula:
These are pressed-powder eyeshadows. Some feel a little chalky, others more silky and some feel even a bit creamy.

Coverage:
The pigmentation in the shadows vary; some have a lot of pigmentation and some lack pigmentation, but still are workable. All colors are buildable.

Wear:
Average wear for an eyeshadow. They are not a long-wear formula so I would recommend using a shadow primer first for best results.

Shades Available:
There are currently two Beauty School Shadow Palettes available, each having 32 shadows. Volume 1 has the more natural shades (which is the one featured in this blog post) and Volume 2 has the brighter shades (which I don't own, yet).

Container:
A rectangular palette with partial window to see some of the shadows inside. When you open the palette there is a mirror on the top of the inside of the lid. The eyeshadows are on the other side. A double-ended applicator is included but I did not photograph it because I throw them out usually right away.

Cost/Availability:
They are just $5 per palette on the e.l.f. Cosmetic's website.

e.l.f. Cosmetics Beauty School Shadow Palette Volume 1 Review:
This palette is a really affordable way to play with more natural, neutral tones of eyeshadow. From mattes to satins to shimmers, this palette has a little of everything to create endless looks. Even though some shades lack pigmentation, over all this palette is really useable!

I haven't played around with it too much yet, but so far I like it.

I'd recommend picking one up the next time you're shopping on e.l.f.'s website - especially when they have a 50% off sale!

Now let me know what you think...

  1. I just bought this and the Vol. 2. I found them both on sale at different drug stores. Anyways, I do love them...what a deal for that many shadows!! And the colors are all wearable and buildable. I have found myself constantly grabbing one or the other of these palettes when trying out new colors and looks. Love them! There are also a couple smaller palettes out...ones for smokey looks and the other for brights...I want those, too. lol.

  3. this i also enjoyed because it's a neutral palette and it's mostly the look that i go for. i wish it was smaller so i can easily bring it to travel with, but it's great for the most part.

  4. Is this better than buying than the 100 shades?

  5. @ noobie_velvet1011: I'm not sure because I don't own the 100 palette; it comes down to your preference.
