MY REVIEW...
I was so excited that Milani came out with a line of matte lipsticks in their Color Statement Lipstick formula! Yes, in the original 30 Color Statement Lipsticks there were 3 mattes - which isn't nearly enough for matte lip lovers out there. This collection of 8 shades will be a much more satisfying collection if you want matte lipstick.
The packaging is the same, so they'll look great along with your other Milani Color Statement Lipsticks. But one big difference, and one that a lot of you may appreciate, is the smell is completely different. Those that have the original Color Statement Lipsticks know they have a fruity scent, which a lot of people didn't like. I personally have no problem with the scent, but I will say that the new scent is way more my style. The scent now is more of a light vanilla scent, which is very pleasant and if you like the way MAC lipsticks smell, then you'll likely enjoy the way the new Milani Color Statement Lipsticks smell. And yes, they changed the scent on not just this new Matte collection, but also the new shades they added to their regular Color Statement Lipstick line (I have the two new shades, along with two new lip liners that I'll review in an upcoming post).
I'm not going to go into too much detail about the formula - because I really love these! I prefer this formula to the Maybelline Creamy Matte lipsticks. So instead of going into detail about the formula, let's talk about the shades!
My favorite shade out of all is Matte Naked - it's such a pretty nude for me and the most wearable/everyday. Not too brown and not too pink, but with a hint of peach. It's one of those versatile shades that can be worn on its own or easily topped with any gloss. They describe it as a "your lips but better" medium nude - and I'd say that's pretty accurate, but we all know "your lips but better" can mean a lot of different shades depending on your natural lip tone.
Still speaking of the nude shades, Matte Innocence is horrible on me; it's like concealer and it was really hard to even get my lips to swatch it nice. It may be more flattering on someone with a fairer skintone or those that enjoy those concealer light beige nudes. The funny thing is this is described as a soft whisper of pink nude, which sounds gorgeous and swatches gorgeous, but on my lips - ew, no thank you!
Matte Blissful is a light bubblegum pink that I'd say has a mauve undertone to it. Pretty, although not my favorite pink from the line.
Matte Diva, on the other hand, is my favorite pink from the line. This is a nice bright pink shade that is like MAC's Candy Yum Yum but not as intense (but very close). I wish I had Candy Yum Yum to swatch next to it; I'm sure another blogger out there has compared them though.
Matte Orchid is like a deeper, more fuchsia tone of Matte Diva. Very pretty, my second favorite pink shade from the line! I will reach for this in the spring and summer all the time!
Matte Glam is a purple that I think has a pink undertone to it. I like purples, but for some reason this one just doesn't flatter me very much.
Matte Passion is an orange based red, which I actually like but I'm not a big red lips wearer. But if I were to pick one of the reds from this line, it would be Matte Passion.
Matte Confident is a darker brick red shade, which is pretty in its own way but surely not for me. I can see it being flattering on a lot of people though.
If I were to recommend three shades they'd be Matte Naked, Matte Diva and Matte Orchid. But let me know which shades are your favorites!
