I've got one boob....

I don't know if many people who read my blog know this, but I have fake boobs. I don't hide the fact that they're fake; I'll tell anyone and I enjoy helping others who are thinking about doing the same thing. I had them done when I was 19 (back in February 2004) and developed a complication only corrected by surgery (I waited until after I had my son to have them re-fixed, which was in February 2006). Well last night my right implant ruptured!!!!

I have saline implants so it's not an emergency situation, but the longer I wait to have them fixed the more that cavity/pocket will close and the more difficult the surgery to remove it will be and the more pain I will be in afterwards. Luckily, today I was already going to my surgeon's office (he's the one that did my nose & chin; he did NOT do my boobs and I would never go back to the doctor that did my boobs). If my boob could break at the perfect time, it did. My surgeon confirmed that yes, it ruptured.

I am having the surgery to fix this within a month or so. We do not have money for this right now, but this is one of those emergency situations that pop up where we can use a low interest or no interest credit card for. This surgery won't be as expensive as my nose & chin, and part of my hospital/anesthesia fees will be covered because my boobs are still under warranty. But still... expect more stuff in my blog sale soon!!

Right now I feel weird... I don't feel feminine and I feel really uneven (of course). I joke that I look like a before & after on one body, lol, but it's kind of true. I'm going to Victoria's Secret today to get chicken cutlets for just the one boob because I can't walk around like this for a month.

When I have them re-done I will have both implants taken out, even though the left one is perfectly fine. I just would rather have two brand new, fresh warranty implants. Not sure how the pain will be afterwards... I know it will hurt but I likely won't have any pain of the skin and muscle stretching. Then again, I was told it wouldn't hurt as bad when I had them done the second time and I thought it hurt worse. Only time will tell!

Worst. Surgery. Pain. Ever.

Wow... I had NO idea how bad the chin augmentation would hurt. Seriously, my nose isn't in that much pain in comparision to my chin. I think all the skin stretching on my neck and chin is causing tons of pain - not to mention all the swelling.

I have no feeling in my lower lip, so I had to switch to a liquid pain medication since trying to swallow a pill, or even a piece of a pill, is nearly impossible having no feeling in my lower lip. Plus, I can barely open my mouth. My doc said the feeling in my lip could come back in a few days, a week or two or even a month! I couldn't image waiting a month! He says the nerve endings will re-grow there, but the amount he had to sever to put the implant in would for sure cause numbness in my lips/upper chin.

My nose... well the worse part is proably not being able to blow my nose, even though I have the biggest urge to do so. The dried up blood is painful to remove, so I pretty much work on it little by little throughout the day.

My doc said my nose was one of the worst noses he's ever seen, and he's seen a lot of bad noses. He said there were so many broken pieces in the nose and when he was shaving down the bump on my nose it was just crumbling. The good thing is they had just enough cartlidge from my nose so they didn't have to use any from my ears, and they also didn't have to break my nose, which is why the pain in my nose isn't too bad.

I was at the doc yesterday for my post-op (the day after surgery) and I go back on Monday to have the splints taken out of my nose. I am NOT looking foward to it. It was SO uncomfortable yesterday with just a small amount of clean up around my nose. I can't image how bad it will be to have the splints out and then the stitches, whenever they come out.

I just wish I could re-gain feeling in my lip so I can swallow pills again. The liquid pain meds taste terrible, and so does the antibiotic - which I had to open the capsule and mix it in with apple juice and squirt it down my throat - YUCK! But I know it's important.

I haven't eaten anything yet - but I'm trying some protein shakes. I have no appetite and honestly have no idea how I'm going to eat anythig considering I can't feel my bottom lip.

I'll update you all more on my progress soon, along with pics. But right now I need to take my pain meds and get back to the couch... this hurts :(

My surgery date is set!

Just another update with my surgery journey :)

I'm so excited right now because my surgery date is set! It will be on March 2nd at 9am! It seems so far away, but it will be here before I know it.

There are still details I need to take care of - like getting my labs done and picking up a copy of the operating report from my ENT doc (regarding my septoplasty surgery). But besides those two things, I really just need to finalize the arrangement of when my mom and grandmom will be here to help out.

My pre-op appointment will fall shortly after Valentine's Day and from there it's only about 2 weeks until my surgery! WOW - it really will be here before I know it!!!

Only 41 more days until I get a new nose and a new chin! More surgery updates will follow as they happen.


On a side note...

I'm sick. I woke up with an awful sore throat and just that hit-by-a-truck feeling. A fever followed not far behind the sore throat and I quickly turned into a blanket zombie, hanging out on the couch.

I really cannot be sick right now. There are too many things to do! But I also know that sometimes getting sick is a blessing in disguise. It forces you to slow down and take a break - which is something I've desperately needed lately.

I have a feeling I got sick from the kid in my son's class that sneezed into my mouth. Yeah, that was probably it. Awesome.


Alright, gotta run for now. I just realized it's 10pm and my son is still up (he's been helping my husband build my custom nail polish rack, hehe). I can already see how fun the morning will be... "mom, I'm tooooo tired", "mom, I need to stay home from school", "I can't brush my teeth. I can't get dressed". Oh what fun it will be.

Let's talk noses....

Some of you know, from reading past blog posts, that my dog broke my nose a few months ago (back in August). When he broke my nose he also collapsed my deviated septum, which I had fixed back in January 2009 to improve my breathing. It's no secret - I want my nose fixed! I hate how crooked it has become and my breathing is back to how it was before I had my deviated septum repaired. Not only that, but sometimes when I apply foundation on my nose I can hear and feel crunching, which just makes my nose hurt (it makes it hurt just thinking about that, yuck!).

From the day my dog broke my nose I said I wanted to have it fixed. Before having my nose broken it was slightly crooked, which I didn't really mind, and it was big with a bump, but again I didn't really mind. It was my nose and I was going to live with it. But when my dog broke my nose... well, all that "I'm going to live with my nose" talk went out the door. It's not my nose anymore... it's a crooked weird nose that I wasn't born with.

At this point it's just a matter of when the surgery will take place. I'm hoping it will be in March, that's the plan anyway.  I want to have my surgery before the summer (I'm an amusement park enthusiast; I go 1 to 3 times a week in the summer and I will not miss out on that fun). I know the healing process takes time (a year for full results... sometimes even two years), but after 8 weeks I should be okay to return to normal life (meaning, if I have my surgery in March I should be good to ride roller coasters in June... but that's something I will have to ask my surgeons about).

My mother-in-law works at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, and she's worked with a very good nose doctor up there - which she recommends highly. But going to him would require so much hassle: taking my son out of school, traveling 4 hours to Pennsylvania, not seeing my husband or dogs for a week, and having to stay at my parent's house... which isn't the ideal recovery space. Not to mention having to travel for all follow up appointments. So while he comes with a good recommendation from my mother-in-law, I just have to try and find someone down here in Virginia.

Which brings me to my questions for my blog readers (you can email me if you don't want to leave a comment on my blog):

1. Did you get a nose job?
2. If so, who did your nose?
3. Is there anything you wish you would have asked at the consultations that you may have forgotten to ask?

This isn't my first plastic surgery (I've had my boobs done twice - once to have them fixed... long story), so I have an idea of what to look for and what to ask. But I want to hear opinions on what to ask from those that have had a nose surgery (or chin implant surgery).

I begin my consultations with Virginia surgeons this week. So far I have 3 consultations set up and another 4 or 5 docs on my list, which I contacted by email over the weekend (I'm just waiting for a response).

I'm really excited for my consultation on Thursday - right now he's the doc I think may end up being my doc. But I am excited to meet with all the docs and see who I feel will be the best match.

At the same time I'm getting my nose fixed I'm also getting my chin implant. I have a recessed chin naturally, which has bothered me since high school. I will leave my mouth slightly open to drop my chin a little more forward or if my mouth is closed I do this jaw/chin-push-forward thingy that makes my chin not recessed. I've been doing this for 10 years now, so it's become a natural habit; I just want to be able to not have to do that to feel like my chin is "normal". I don't want a big chin; I just want my chin to be proportioned with my face. And since I'll be getting surgery for my nose anyway, I figured it would be a good time to get that done too so I don't have to do more than one surgery or so I don't have any regrets that I should have done it.

I'm sure you will see posts on this blog about my plastic surgery journey - from consultations, to the actual surgery, to recovery, to before & afters. I'm not a shy or private person when it comes to that kind of thing.

In fact, if anyone is interested in having their boobs done and if they have any questions I'd be more than happy to tell you about what happened to me. I had complications after my surgeries (after both), so I definitely do not have the perfect breast augmentation surgery story. But I think my story can help because it wasn't perfect. Just send me an email if you have any questions. If I receive enough emails about boob surgery I might just make a blog post about my boob surgery.
